Led a Parent Workshop on “Nature in Your Neighborhood: Parents & Kids Doing Community Science Together” with Reading to Kids at Esperanza Elementary School

I was thrilled to lead a parent workshop for the wonderful literacy nonprofit, Reading to Kids, at Esperanza Elementary School near Downtown Los Angeles this month. My workshop, presented in English with Spanish translation and with Spanish/English materials, emphasized appreciating the nature that surrounds us in the urban environment. Parents discussed their observations of nature large and small and the importance of relationships when it comes to fostering scientific curiosity, and appreciation for nature, and a love of learning. Parents then participated in their own Community Science style nature observation trip around the school!
