In 2020, California became the first state in the US to set a goal of conserving 30% of our land and coastal waters by 2030. This Executive Order under Governor Newsom led to the formation of the California Biodiversity Collaborative by the California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA) in order to launch an inclusive statewide process to envisioning how to make the state’s 30×30 goals a reality. In 2022, following this stakeholder process, California issued the report, “Pathways to 30×30: Accelerating Conservation of California’s Nature” that “identifies concurrent paths for action that hinge on empowering local and regional partners, including federal agencies, Native American tribes, county governments, land trusts, resource conservation districts, environmental conservation groups and others.”
In September 2022, the California 30×30 Partnership was launched in Sacramento by the CNRA. The goal of the partnership is “to support implementation of 30×30 and to engage and empower all partners working toward its objectives.” PAJE Consulting joined the launch after participating in the 30×30 stakeholder engagements.
